Site Preparation

How to Prepare for Your Delivery

For all of our buildings at Backyard Creations we require a firm, level area on which to place the building. We build all of our structures with pressure treated 4×4′s attached  to the underside of the floor. We build all of our structures with pressure treated 4×4′s attached to the underside of the floor.

This allows for the smaller 6′ wide or 8′ wide buildings to be placed directly on the ground. The treated 4×4′s allow air to flow under the floor to keep it dry.

Crushed Stone

A base of 4 inch thick 1/2” crushed stone is an excellent base for any building. We recommend digging out the grass to keep the stone at ground level for a smaller step into the building and an easier installation of the building for the delivery person. Use a 2×4 or another straight edge and a level to grade the stone till the area is level.

Concrete Blocks

If your structure is 8 feet wide or smaller you can set the building on solid concrete blocks. In order to avoid a large step into the building use 2” or 4”  blocks or dig out the ground so the blocks are ground level. Solid concrete blocks should not be stacked any higher then 6” from the ground. All our structures sit on 4×4′s, please contact our office (888)519-3468 to determine how your blocks should be placed.

Concrete Pad

A 4 to 5 inch thick concrete pad is ideal base for our larger buildings. The pad should be the same size as the floor of the building.

The floor sizes:
8′ wide buildings the floor is 8′ wide
10′ wide buildings the floor is 10′ wide
12′ wide buildings the floor is 11′ 6” wide

We at Backyard Creations do not prepare building foundations over 40 miles from our location. If you need assistance we recommend contacting a local landscaping company to prepare the site.
